About Jack

Born and raised in Saint Paul, Minnesota, I come from a family of tradesmen. Both my father and brother are carpenters, and on the weekends, you could find the whole family tinkering away in the garage. Growing up, my favorite television shows were Modern Marvels, Mythbusters, and This Old House; I still find joy watching old episodes on Youtube. These early experiences led to my particular passion for addressing the quirks of older homes, maintaining what makes them special while ensuring they can last for many years to come.

Today, I live with my wife, Megan, and our young son, Liam. We recently moved back into my 100-year old childhood home and are working on renovating it to enjoy for many years to come. When I’m not working on your house or my own, I love to bike, camp - I organize an annual Boundary Waters trip - and support my community through mutual aid.

How did you learn the trades?

In my 15+ years of experience, I have become a “Jack of All Trades” simply because I love to take on challenges. Nothing gets me more excited that tackling a new problem and using a mix of existing and new skills to find an effective solution. I have worked as a carpenter, landscaper, painter, built custom rock climbing walls, building maintenance for apartment complexes from section 8/affordable to high end luxury , and most recently, manager of a building maintenance team for a local automotive repair chain. I am knowledgeable in the range of systems present in people’s homes - from electrical, to plumbing, to landscaping, to drywall and trim work, to carpentry. Because I know all of the different systems, I am able to grasp the bigger picture of issues, particularly when one system might be causing or impacting an problem with another system.

Why Red Wrench?

In my own home and in my work, I always strive to do things correctly, never cutting corners. Unfortunately when people have been burned by bad contractors in the past or just don’t have the experience to know how to handle a repair, things can get overwhelming. I am here to bridge that gap. A satisfying day is one where I leave someone’s home and know that I’ve made it a better space for them, a space that they will continue to enjoy and make their own.

Having worked for larger companies, I know sometimes things like profit and quick turnaround gets in the way of quality outcomes. By starting my own operation, I know that I am ultimately in charge of the end result and can center key values in how I operate the business - specifically Integrity, Trust, Compassion, and Community.

And as someone who is active in my community I also value being an ally to all LGBTQ+ persons and other marginalized groups. It can be very stressful to have an unknown stranger in your home, especially if this person cant even respect who you are.

I aim to always provide professional results without fear of judgment for who you are.
